Online engagement with your customers are not the same with the traditional face-to-face basis, you need a tool to relay your voice to your customer. This is were technology comes to work with us. Well you might ask, what if I already have either a fixed-line or mobile phone, do I need to have another communication line? The quick answer is, customer/s have different choices too when it comes to communication preference - if possible you have to get that line too.
What's the basic way to connect, when customers like to contact you?
For some people who where used to using common communication medium, like land line or mobile phone, they love to look for your number. The other customers prefer talking with you using apps, which is freely available, so when you choose to subscribe to a telecommunication company an Internet option is always an addition to your bill. You need to have one that is right apps for your business. Social media engagement makes people go around the world without leaving their homes, but many still want to do business the traditional way. How to sell our products is one thing, convincing customers to buy your products are what makes business very interesting.
Do we need to have an email address?
Emails are used when you need your identity verified, for instance with your bank or those where you must receive an attachments. This is a personal email that you will give to your doctor, lawyer or to receive flight boarding passes. You shall never share this email to anyone whom you don't know.
To answer the question, it is No - not everyone needs an email address. You don't use technology just to go with the trend, carefully use technology to enhance what you already learn.

While others prefer a much private conversation, you may bring the chat with apps like Signal, Telegram, or Viber, just to make them comfortable. This is how to build up your contact list. One reason why people want to chat in private because some people don't observe ethics on chatting. When they get hold with your email address or your mobile number, they will offer you with everything - a sure way to loss them.
